Things You Need To Know As A Online Auction Buyer

August 27th, 2008

Before you start bidding, become familiar with the auction site where you want to bid. There are many auction sites and none of them are the same. Auction sites have different rules and to avoid problems, become familiar with the each site’s rules. It can save you from headaches, frustration, and problems later. Make sure you get informed; it’s worth the time and effort.

Find out what kind of protection you have as a buyer. Each site is different and many sites offer guarantees and protection.. If you are not sure of your protection and rights as a buyer, then send an email and ask.

You should always know what it is that you are bidding on. Look at the pictures, read the descriptions carefully. If you still don’t understand and are still unsure about what is being offered. Then it may be better to look at another item. If the item has no picture listed, it’s better to keep looking and find something else. Always read the fine print, look for words such as off-brand, close out, discontinued, refurbished. Sometimes this information is not even on the auction site. It will sometimes first appear on the sellers online store. If you don’t take time to READ, you may order, or bid, on something that you really didn’t want to buy in the first place. That’s why you need to be sure you know what is being auctioned and not just “pretty sure” you know. All sales are final. When the auction is over, it’s too late to start asking questions.

Find out what you can about the seller. Know the person that you are dealing with. Get at least an email address , telephone number, address and full name. Call the number to see if it is correct especially if the item you want to bid on is more than $20. If the web auction offers a rating service, you can always check their history,. If the seller has a good rating, your chances are much better that they can be trusted. Look at other items they are selling. If the seller has an online shop, take a look around at the shop. How long have they been a member of the auction site? How many items have they sold? How good is their feedback?

Here are a couple more short tips: Does the item have a guarantee? Who pays for shipping? Would you get your money back, or only credit to buy something else for them? Do they use known payment companies? Also find out how soon you will receive your purchase.

One thing you need to remember is, “If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is.” Don’t believe every thing you find on the internet, much of it is as crooked as a dog’s back leg. Take time to get informed and you’ll be glad you did. Better to be safe than sorry. There are lots of great deals to be found on internet auctions but you should always remember that you have never personally met the seller you are dealing with. Learn to ask questions and stay informed . It will help make your auction bidding an exciting experience.

Global Online Auction Tips for Buyers and Sellers

August 27th, 2008

Whether you are a seller or a buyer at online auctions, it’s important to understand how auctions work and how to buy or sell products securely. While online auctions offer many benefits as well as an opportunity to buy and sell internationally, the business can be risky. In fact, online auctions rank near the top among consumer fraud complaints. Use the tips below to maximize your Internet auction benefits.

Selling Auction Items

Before starting an online auction business, you should understand your legal obligations. Carefully create “terms of sale” that explain what you expect from the buyer and what the buyer should expect from you. When describing items, be very descriptive. Include the condition of the item, any flaws in the product, and state whether it’s used, new, or reconditioned. Be sure to price the item high enough to cover your investment, and include an adequate amount for shipping.

Be very specific on shipping terms, your return policy, and any restocking fees. Also, always include photos with your items when possible. Auction items with photos tend to sell well. Once you’ve sold an item, be sure to ship it on time and give good customer service at all times.

If accepting payments through an online auction, choose a method that will enable you to sell around the world. Some payment options are only feasible in your particular country. Many third-party online merchant services offer international payment systems. Find the one that works for you and your customers. Remember, with online auctions, you might receive orders from anywhere… Egypt, South Africa, USA, Kenya, UK, India, Indonesia, Germany, Argentina, France, Brazil, Nigeria, or anywhere in Europe.

Buyer Auction Tips

Buying from online auctions can be a great way to get quality products at low prices. Some products you might find at an auction online include salvage items, real estate properties, cars, antiques, auto care products, computers, jewelry, electronics, books, clothing, and so forth. The possibilities are endless.

If you’re an auction buyer, observe the rules and terms of the auction online before placing bids. Keep up-to-date on auction news to become familiar with the latest trends. Make sure the item you are considering is what you’re really looking for. Check out the description, photos, guarantee or warranty, condition of the product, size, brand name, and so on. Also, consider shipping into your cost and from which country the item will be shipped. If you bid lower than retail, the shipping charges could make the product cost even more than the retail value. Some sellers will offer free shipping with high-ticket items.

Also, consider the seller’s return policy, payment methods, and their feedback rating (if available). If no feedback is available, it’s up to you to determine if you want to give the new seller a try or not.

Be Safe as an Online Auction Bidder

Protect your personal information. Never give the seller more information than is needed. Your social security number, bank account information, or personal login information to the bidding site or any other site should never be solicited. If the seller tries to obtain this information from you, turn them in to the bidding site for investigation.

With these tips in mind, you can successfully start an online auction business or become a smart auction bidder. The opportunity for global auction business has never been greater than it is right now!

Starting a Business can be Quite Daunting

Are you considering starting a business? If you are it can be quite daunting. Imagine if you jumped in the deep end and leased a shop. This could cost you quite a lot. You would have to pay rent, telephone, signage, cleaning - the list goes on.

Better Alternatives than Jumping in the Deep End

There are better alternatives to help you start out before jumping in the deep end and risking everything. One of these alternatives is selling using online auction sites across the internet.

You get International Exposure

There are several to choose from and you get an international exposure to a huge audience.

Most of these types of sites are easy to use as well. This is a significant advantage when you are considering setting up a small business. The cost to advertise your goods is relatively cheap and your exposure is huge.

Better Than Risking Everything

The option for setting up an online auction store is so much better than risking everything by leasing a shop. You can start really small. You could buy some stock and list it from the comfort of your own home. Once things progress and it gets busy for you, you can then look at possibly leasing some space.

Achieve the Basics First

Once you have established the basics of your business and you have achieved certain hurdles you will then be more comfortable moving into designated premises. Leasing a space will cost a significant amount and you usually have to sign a fixed lease. This means you will need to pay for the term of the lease even if you run into trouble and can’t afford to.

There is a Lot to Learn

When starting a business there is a lot to learn. You need to learn;
- how to get work

- present your business,
- build confidence,
- maintain quality
- patience
- how to deal with people
- how to create a marketing plan
- how to build leads.

The list is endless. And this is before you start employing people. As soon as you employ people the real fun starts. Are you good with dealing with others? If not, you may find it difficult to deal with employees. You either need to learn really quickly or choose a specialist business where you are the only contact and do not employ others.

Once you have established the basics of your business and you have achieved certain goals you can progress slowly to bigger and better things.

So consider online auction sites as a stepping stone to start your small business. This will reduce the risk, reduce your stress level and give you a good opportunity to test your product.
